It keeps out negative and harmful thoughts. Eventually your entire mind and essence are filled with good thoughts.

Transcending with TM

Transcendental meditation allows you to peer inward on the thought processes. Also known as TM, it teaches that one can concentrate on thoughts from a more basic and primal standpoint. When this happens, you “transcend” your usual thought patterns and find the source of all thoughts.

It is not difficult to practice TM. One can sit quietly and concentrate on a single sound. An often used sound is the word “OM”. OM is said to be all of the thoughts in the universe compressed into one sound. One concentrates on this sound with the exclusion of everything else. This is believed to allow one to “transcend” normal thought and discover where it really comes from.

Zen Technique

During the process of Zen meditation, one is taught to clear the mind of all thought. When this happens, it strips away the veil of reality and allows a view to the real world and the real self. Once this occurs, one is “awakened” and able to understand many of life’s problems. It may become easier to distinguish between trivial and important things in life.

One method is to sit and relax. Sitting on the floor with legs crossed may help. Breathe deeply and concentrate on the breath. If you wish, you can observe something like one of your hands. Use the concentration to help clear the mind. When thoughts enter, simply brush them aside and continue. It will get easier with practice.

There are a great number of meditation techniques. Raja yoga teaches one to filter thoughts as they enter the mind. Only let soothing ones in. TM teaches one to concentrate on a particular sound like OM. This will allow you to relax and transcend normal thought processes. Zen teaches one to clear the mind.
