Most people take extra measures to avoid stress whenever possible. They manage their work load, hours of work, exercise, eat healthy, some meditate and practice yoga or even take regular holidays.
One of the simplest ways, which is a much ignored way of beating stress, is to focus on deep breathing.
Deep breathing is simple, easy and can be practiced by anyone without much effort or needing any equipment. It’s the best way to relax even while you’re at work. Since it’s an automatic bodily function, many don’t think it would help beat your stress. However many studies have proved that it does.
Deep breathing is easy, but requires some practice. It needs to be done slowly and steadily and you need to breathe from the diaphragm. Controlling your breathing will take you some time till you can start doing it involuntarily. Try by doing it once every day.
Place your on hand on your chest and the other on your stomach or abdomen. Inhale slowly and deeply and hold till about seven counts. While you inhale the hand on your abdomen must rise more than the hand on your chest.
The idea is to expel all the air from your lungs. So you need to exhale after that slowly and steadily contracting your stomach muscles.
Exhaling too requires to be done slowly along eight counts. In doing this you will expel all the air out of your lungs.
You need to do this entire cycle of inhaling and exhaling at least four times and while you’re at it focus on all the positive thoughts and discard the negative ones. For example think your proposal will be a success rather than a failure and you will be well on your way to complete stress management.
