Most people take extra measures to avoid stress whenever possible. They manage their work load, hours of work, exercise, eat healthy, some meditate and practice yoga or even take regular holidays.
One of the simplest ways, which is a much ignored way of beating stress, is to focus on deep breathing.
Breathing and its healing functions have long been recognized by some cultures and even been incorporated in their healing techniques, such as yoga. Breathing is the simplest, easiest way to managing your stress and can be practiced by anyone.
Breathing exercises initially would require some practice as it is not easy to practice controlled breathing. It would help to do it once everyday till you get the hang of it and can do it unconsciously. All you need to do is breathe slowly and observe you breathing and breathe from your diaphragm.
You can start by placing your hands on your stomach and chest and monitor your breathing. Ensure that the hand on your stomach rises more than the hand on your chest while inhaling. Continue too inhale and hold for about seven counts.
Once you’re done with inhaling at the count of seven, exhale releasing all the air and contracting your abdomen muscles. All the air from your lungs should be expelled while you do this.
Exhaling needs to be done over about eight counts. However, the longer you take to exhale the better chances of you having expelled all the air out of your lungs.
Complete the whole cycle of inhaling and exhaling at least four times. Keep your thoughts and emotions positive while you’re doing it or you could say a positive word while inhaling and a negative one while exhaling. This would help you enhance your relaxation and calm you mind and keep it stress free.
